The Best Way to Make Money on Your Blog? Give Them What They Want!

targeting visitors to make money

A lot of bloggers start their blogs hoping that one day they will be making money from it. Which is absolutely fine – after all, why else would you put all that effort into writing and helping people if there wasn’t at least some kind of compesation waiting for you later…

But most of those same bloggers go into it with absolutely no monetization plan and hope to work it out as they go. Like putting some banner ads up and hoping for sales.

So let’s assume you are one of those “no-plan but wants to make money” bloggers and that you think it is time to monetize your piece of internet property. What is the best way?

The first thing people take into consideration (usually) is the traffic. But not all traffic is equal. So depending on your niche and potential monetization options, that traffic can make money in different ways.

Do not take traffic numbers as the main factor.

Think visitors as individuals. What are they after and what can you sell them that they really want!?

Let’s say you have 100 visitors a day and want to start making money with Adsense. Let’s also say average click through rate is 2%. And let’s assume you aren’t in the $7 per click niche, most likely, at the very beginning, you will be in about 20 cents per click group (if not way less).

Time to do some math now, at 2% CTR from 100 people and at 20 cents per click, you will make 40 cents a day. About $12 a month. Not so great.

However, let’s say you have a travel site about, for example, beaches in Greece and you have a deal with hotels in the area. They pay you a referral fee every time someone rents a room through your site. $25 for every referal.

Again some guesses, let’s keep the 2% CTR, and guess 10% of those rent a room, which makes it 6 people a month. That is $150. Much better.

Another travel site maybe chose to go with Adsense and isn’t making any money, because he is losing visitors to sites that are not completely related, like beaches in Croatia, while you are sending people to exactly what they want – Greece.

Target, target, target!

See, the main thing about making money online is giving people what they want. You don’t even have to be an authority in the niche, you don’t have to have the best site, those one page sale sites are the proof. They give people solutions to their problems, they give them exactly what those people want.

So the thing you need to do now is figure out what in your industry sells the most (and for the best price) and then see if you can sell it to your visitors.

No, I don’t mean hard core marketing. I mean finding that product or service your visitors need and want and at the same time make sure you will make good comissions.

And voila… You got your site monetized and the checks are pouring in. Trust me, I’ve seen it all, from putting a link to a WP plugin on a poem blog (just because they use WP) to putting Adsense on a golfing blog. Wrong monetization and waste of space.

Think carefully how can you help your visitors and yourself at the same time and start working hard so you can get to one of those gorgeous beaches in Greece :)
