Your Blog Sucks Because You Are Lazy!

lazy blogger

I think I can safely say I pin pointed one main thing that keep people from succeeding in this internet /blogging business. Everyone wants to be Problogger, they keep buying courses, subscribing to newsletters yet nothing comes out of it.

Well, my friend,  your biggest problem is that you are just lazy!

Yes, I said it. You are lazy!

I can bet that on an average blogger’s computer, there are at least 5 paid courses and 50 free e-books the blogger acquired from the day they started messing with the inter-webs. However, most of the time, the conclusion is that there is too much competition, there is no space for the new guy and so on.

But how many of the tips from all those books have you implemented? Did you even read all that material?

If you want to succeed, you need to follow the advice of those ahead of you that are giving it so freely and put it to work. Not just listen about it in a webinar, write down notes and read newsletters, I mean do exactly what it tells you to do.

When I first started, this is exactly what I did and my first sites were a blast from the get go. I could see the difference in matter of days, running faster than those who have been online for years before me. But I am a do-er.

So let me get you started with 5 things you need to do right now…. NOW! to get your blog off the ground.

#1 For the millionth time repeating this one – start building a list! If you don’t have money for Aweber, which I recommend, start with MailChimp!

#2 If you plan to monetize your blog “one day”, make that day today. Don’t wait for any numbers, like certain number of visitors or page views, just monetize it from the beginning. Also helps with those that are “shocked” that you started monetizing your free content.

#3 Pick two social media sites you will use to promote your site and stick to them. Don’t go anywhere else until you master these two and become a recognized face on them. It will bring more results than spreading yourself thin over 10 networks.

#4 Pick 10 big blogs in your niche and comment on their posts all the time. You will get noticed by the owner and if your comments are really useful, people commenting will notice you too and come to check out your blog. Yes, it really is as simple as that :) this was my main thing when I started and worked like a charm.

#5 Chose 3 well known blogs in your industry, do research like crazy on them, see what kind of posts are they publishing and what they may be missing and prepare a guest post for each of them. Make sure it is amazing and you are on a roll. Those 3 posts can bring you more success than writing 10 average ones on an average blog.

Conclusion

Please, put to use everything you read and learn. When it comes to success, you can’t beat action!

Tell me something I don’t know; hell, I know I’m lazy and that doesn’t even have anything to do with my sucking wind blog. I guess that’s what happens when you just show up w/ no drinks in hand, huh?Hola ma’am; you just thought you got rid of me…………..:).

Hi Brankica,You asked a question in this post that I actually asked myself the other day: am I making use of the advice other bloggers give me, or am I just reading it, bookmarking it, and saying, “yeah, I’ll look at that later”?For me, it’s been the latter. I know a LOT about blogging, but I’ve failed to DO a lot. And yes, I’ve come to the conclusion: I’m SO lazy.Fortunately, running my blog isn’t a matter of life and death, and if I’m lazy (which I am), it won’t be the end of the world. That’s the bright side. The not-so-bright side is that while I blog only as a hobby, I still want to be successful. That is, I want readers, I want interaction, I want traffic. Who doesn’t?My problem is that I’m a scatterbrained blogger. I wish I could sit down in front of my computer to do my blogging tasks one after another: read, write, interact, etc. But nooooo… I’ve got to work on that post I forgot about a month ago, and I don’t feel like reading, so forget the idea of making comments on the latest posts over at my favorite blogs—and now that I think of it, maybe they’re not my favorite since I don’t feel like having anything to do with them at the moment. And oh yeah, wasn’t I going to do some photoshopping? Oh wait—I need to redesign my blog!Well, you get the idea. That’s how blogging goes for me—every day. I’ve tried to create a routine and make priority lists, but it totally goes against my grain. The doomed blogger,-Sarah

    • http://onlineincomestar.com/ Brankica

Sarah Payne ok, girl, I am totally like that, it takes me 3 hours to do something a regular person would do in 20 minutes because I am: not in the mood at the moment, I think there is something else I should be doing… bright shiny object. I know what you are talking about and without giving you stupid advice like “organize yourself” cause we know it won’t work… just go with the flow and do stuff when you feel like doing them :)

  • http://ariherzog.com/ Ari Herzog

Your fourth bullet point is very true. I’ve frequently received comments and/or emails from people who explicitly said they saw me commenting on so and so’s blog enough times that they felt I was worthy to visit.

    • http://onlineincomestar.com/ Brankica

Ari Herzog yup, I think that was my big move when I started, it was probably the best thing I did in the first 2 months of my blog. Except I didn’t limit myself to 10 lol

  • SkylerSweet

So true. This week I started making my site my home on the Internet and my blog is becoming more sticky! The less time I spread creating content for other networks and platforms, the more time I have for my own! Great advice!

    • SkylerSweet

      Spend*. Silly autotext!

    • http://onlineincomestar.com/ Brankica

SkylerSweet that is great, I always say you should use social media to drive traffic TO your site not the other way around. So just create content for your site and then tell people about it on social media so they would come and check it out… can’t beat that! And don’t forget the list! :)

  • http://www.thetop10blog.com/ TonyH

You make good point Brankica – I confess to being lazy, doing exactly what you say and reading good advice that I don’t follow up.I’m selectively lazy though, sometimes lazy sometimes energetic, often an enthusiastic blogger but more often apathetic, sometimes committed but other times disillusioned. It’s this inconsistency that frustrates me.I put it down to being an enthusiastic ‘amateur’ who would like income from the blog rather than being a committed professional who is determined to do so whatever it takes. I’m still here though after nearly 3 years still largely enjoying the process and vowing (again) to be more committed to my blog by following  your advice. This comment is maybe the first small step in that process, thanks for giving me a nudge –

    • http://onlineincomestar.com/ Brankica

TonyH glad you like it, Tony. I feel similar to that, sometimes I can make 10 great posts in a day, sometimes I just can’t write for weeks and feel so tired of it all, but I think it is a normal proces and all this blogging can burn a person out especially with all the info overload, it just gets to us!

Hi Brankica#3 Pick two social media sites you will use to promote your site and stick to them. Don’t go anywhere else until you master these two and become a recognized face on them.Twitter and facebook.I’ve been on twitter some time now and it is very easy to use.I’ve just started on facebook and my Google Analytics shows that traffic from facebook is fast catching up with twitter.Good advice not to spread yourself too thin on the social media front.

    • http://onlineincomestar.com/ Brankica

wmwebdes hey, that is how I did it and it works better than anything else I tried :) glad to see it is working so nicely for you!

  • valmarie

Love this. It’s so true though. Us bloggers can be l-a-z-y! You make such great points here. I will do better!

    • http://onlineincomestar.com/ Brankica

valmarie thanks, glad if I could help  and don’t forget to let us know how it worked out for you :)

  • BetterBloggingWays

Some harsh truths here :-) The main one that applies to me is the email list. I am yet to get started on that and this post was an eye opener. I keep post phoning it since it takes some effort to get it setup. auto responders, freebie etc. no no I am not procrastinating here. It’s in my to do list, but a bit low in priority. You are spot on, about guest posting on key blogs surrounding the niche. My guest post on ProBlogger, Why Kissing a Digital Baby is Better than Back-scratching a Super-famous Blogger  got me more traffic and RSS subscribers than any other guest post I’ve written.

    • http://onlineincomestar.com/ Brankica

BetterBloggingWays you know, if I was you I would start with a list without a freebie and an autoresponder. I don’t have a freebie, and I still get subscribers all the time. And autoresponders, I just add those from time to time, so in 2 yrs I had one of my lists it has maybe 8 autoresponders, nothing much… so you got no excuse now, lol

  • http://everydaygyaan.com/ CorinneRodrigues

I’ve got #1 to #3 down – I love your ideas #4 and #5 – they’re so much more focused than what I’m doing at present. I think I attempt to comment on too many blogs and that leaves me feeling guilty about who I’m missing out on. Thank you for this Brankica

    • http://onlineincomestar.com/ Brankica

CorinneRodrigues I also feel guilty especially if I can’t return the favor to all those coming to my blog but I make sure that when I have time, I at least RT some of their posts and share it around.

  • http://www.thejackb.com/ TheJackB

I was really late with the email list but have been working on it with AWeber and couldn’t be happier. It is so darn easy to use I only wish that I had started years ago.

    • http://onlineincomestar.com/ Brankica

TheJackB me too, I started late and I started with MailChimp, but hey, better late than never, lol, now I know when I start a new site what is the first thing to do :)

  • http://www.dfwrealties.com/ Omni Chaparala – DFW Realties

I have to admit this. We are lazy and that is why our blog does not get as many visitors as we want to get. Thank you for giving us the harsh medicine.

    • http://onlineincomestar.com/ Brankica

Omni Chaparala – DFW Realties now do something about it ;)

Bran,KILLER!Love it… One of my ten blogs to comment on FBBB… In all seriousness those are probably the 5 best tips for any struggling blogger… Now most people are going to file them away and not listen like they do with every great piece of advice… Ryan H.

    • http://onlineincomestar.com/ Brankica

Ryan Hanley Lol, I know :) But I am just telling it as it is and what worked for me, I still have thousands of bookmarks I never went back to so I know how important it is to focus and actually do something

Nicely put!I loved the point about the social media platforms. There are just so many! I am trying my best with the two biggies – twitter and facebook and they are too much to handle as for now! I wonder how people manage more than ten platforms…. mainly, I would forget my passwords for each platforms login… ;)

    • http://onlineincomestar.com/ Brankica

Hajra  I agree with you, I mean I am on more of them but really can’t handle it all in a proper way. When I started I focused on Twitter and it was my main thing and you would not believe how great results I had even though everyone says it is just noise and too fast. If you put it all into a few platforms they will pay back big time. I just think those that are present in a big way in multiple platforms are those that hire social media people to wrok for them ;) As far as passwords go, I recommend signing up for an account with LastPass, it is free, they will safely keep all your passwords and I’ve been using it forever. Try it out, you won’t have to worry about that ever again :)

      • http://hajrakvetches.com/ Hajra

Brankica Oh, thanks for the recommendation! I will try Last Pass :)

  • casalla

Do I need tweet for money, that are lime get married to get my documents, what do you think? @SandraSays

    • SandraSays

@casalla I’m sorry, I don’t understand what you’re asking. Do you need money for what?

      • casalla

        @SandraSays not I don’t money,but I found people using Blogger to that purposes,and I don’t agree with.

  • topdogcoffeebar

My problem has to been trying to galvanize the Owner and Manager to start providing original content for both the Newsletter campaign I created and the wordpress blog I installed at our domain. How do I light a ‘fire’ under their behinds to get them going? Perhaps they are too busy and I should just ghost write for them? Perhaps we should hire you, though we are kinda tapped financially with a high overhead, in spite of a strong revenue stream. I see you offer twitter management, too. I just started working with twitter with hootsuite, and finally twitter makes sense, thanks to hootsuite! I don’t use any automated processes for twitter, though, I follow others by hand, and prune my followers by hand. kinda time consuming! I really enjoy all your media presences here, you’re very generous with your knowledge, appreciated! ` ~Jimmy, Top Dog Coffee Bar
