Your Blogging Superpower

Superpower

My friends and I play the game “Would You Rather…” quite a bit. It’s a game that’s only limited by your imagination, creativity and sometimes your calmness during offensive topics.

No matter how many different times we play it and no matter how many different questions are asked, one that always makes the rounds is a version of The Superpower Question.

I don’t care if it’s phrased “Would you rather be able to fly or be invisible,” or “Would you give up your eyesight for a year if for the year after you could have any superpower you wanted,” or the classic “If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why,” you’ll be asked about superpowers if you hang out with me and my friends long enough.

Since I’ve been asked about them many, many times, I figured this week I would pose the question to you, faithful readers. Although I’ll be nice and give you some choices to help get your creative juices flowing.

So, if you could have any blogging superpower, what would it be? Would it be one of these?

Mega Metaphor Man

Throw on your cloak of super conveyance and thrust your power of the story to defeat your arch enemy, Confusion. You wield similes and metaphors like Hawkeye wields a bow and quill, throwing our clear stories that push your point home so no one walks away from your posts confused.

The power of the mega metaphor is a strong one as people’s perception of your meaning is of utmost importance in blogging. Noises, distractions and advertisements may look to pull your readers’ gaze away from your post, but those villains fall defeated as your stories pierce to the heart of the matter.

Captain Consistency

The battles rages on between the enemies Quality and Quantity. The war has been rolling for centuries and will continue to rage long after our frail bodies leave this dimension. But not for you, oh Captain Consistency. Your posts are like clockwork. Actually, many people do, in fact set their clocks by your posts.

Many think that the iPhone’s digital clock is regulated by satellites in outer space, but the truth is that Tim Cook is subscribed to you and manually sets the clock by your daily posts. You never miss a post and Procrastination trembles in your wake. By the shear amount of content you put out, your powers increase by the day and you slaughter your competition.

The Dramatic Duo

There have been a number of powerful teams to grace the pages of comics through the years: The Dynamic Duo, The Fantastic Four, The Wonder Twins, The Avengers, and so on. Your ability here to come into another blogger’s realm and tame their audience is ne’er matched.

You are the quintessential guest blogger and you can adapt to any arena. Just like The Wonder Twins, it’s a wonder how you morph to meet any challenge and never back down from an audience that may be larger or more focused than your own. You make a strong companion and are an asset to any counterpart, creating a team that cannot be beat.

Boy WonderPix

Most great blog posts contain great pictures. Your ability to search out and insert epic pictures into your posts is unrivaled. Not only do you set the stage for the content you create, but you track down pictures that could be left alone and still get your point across like a rocket.

Most people on the planet are visual learners and you seem to have a specially built-in heat sensor to your readers’ emotions and learning caps. You show the world how it is and how it needs to be at the same time, and always right in the eyeline of your target audience.

So, if you could have any blogging supwerpower, what would it be and why? Would you choose one of the ones above or would you add one of your own? How would it fit in at save your readers from something malicious?

Let me stress that to be a great blogger, you have to have a variety of skills and I’m not saying only doing one thing will suffice. Just like Batman or Ironman, you should have a lot of cool toys at your disposal, but what’s that one thing that makes you super? That one thing that lets you fly above the rest and float for all to see?

That’s up to you.

    G’Day Joey,
I reckon that most conventional HR practices are at least 25 years out of date. I’m also an old bloke who reckons he’s been around long enough to at least know what doesn’t work.
    Which leads me to

    The HR Heretic
    Colonel Curmudgeon
    The Staff Performance Sorcerer
    The Motivation Maverick

    And, and, and and…..

    Thanks for the fun

    Best Wishes
    Leon

    Hi Joey
“So, if you could have any blogging supwerpower, what would it be and why?”

I would love to be Captain Coder so that guys like Brian Gardner and Nathan Rice would ask my advice over on twitter and I would put them right.
    That would be fantastic!

For writing skills what about The Blogging Bard?
People would read my stuff and be so moved… they would be tweeting links to my post for days.

    We can dream!

Great idea Joey – enjoyed taking part.

I think I am Lady WonderPix – sharer of hilarity in picture form; been doing that as long as I can remember – even if the post stinks, at least the picture might make you laugh. And since I like to think I rock ok with the allegorical metaphors and QQC, I’d like to be able to handle the Split Personality of decent guest blogger. Don’t know what it is but when I write for others – I tense, I freeze, I stress so hard about stinking up the joint, I just don’t.

Real powers: I’d like that shifting teleporting thing; you know the be anywhere, blink of an eye, Delta can suck it. So the blogging version of that would be, IDK ahead of the curve. Writing about Pinterest a year ago, before it existed? Jumping from one had-to-be-there moment to another? Or maybe just crashing a few boardrooms so I can say, ‘no – you’re doing it wrong.’ ;-) FWIW.

@3HatsComm I love it. I think those are worthy powers and would do the world a lot of good, although I feel that if I had the second one you described I’d use it for my own gain and rather than writing about Pintrest a year before it was created, I would ust keep my mouth shut and create it myself, lol.
