Tell Us What You Want at For Bloggers By Bloggers

Blog tips and ideas

At For Bloggers By Bloggers, we’d like to think that we cover a pretty diverse range of topics and blogging tips and advice. By having five very different core authors, it (hopefully) helps when it comes to offering different types of advice.

But as diverse and as varied as the authors here are, at the end of the day the core reason for this site is YOU. We want to make sure that we’re offering you the kind of advice that you’re after.

So, along with the blogging tips and more that we’ve offered so far – and thank you so much for making this a great resource destination already – we’d love to hear from you.

  • What are your blogging goals?
  • What do you want to learn more about?
  • Do you prefer a series of posts on the same topic, or separate?
  • What are your three biggest stumbling blocks when it comes to blogging?
  • What how-to videos would be useful for you?

These are just some of the ways we’re looking to help you even more than – again, hopefully – we are now. We’ll continue to bring you the tips and advice that you seem to have enjoyed up until now – but we’re really looking forward to finding out how we can help you even more!

So, the comments are yours. Let us know what you need, and we’ll do our best to oblige!

I am building a blog about sheep and need to shear enough information from this blog about blogging to ensure that no one can pull the wool over my eyes about social media.

2+ years down the road, with partners in three countries and three posts per week, we're seeing an easy 100+ unique visitors per day. I'm not half as interested in traffic as I am in getting more of our readers to jump into the conversation. I figure I'm missing something simple, but I'm always interested in this sort of thing.

Here's the rub: most of our readers already participate in discussion forums - they're used to reading one person's thoughts, then having threaded conversations - but they just aren't stepping up on the blog. Go figure. We're interviewing THEM, we're talking all about how THEY matter, and how much we want to help THEM get more out of their machines and their lives, yet more often than not, bupkis. #facepalm

We've got ridiculously ginormous plans for our community. Absolutely ridiculous. And it drives me nuts knowing I have to keep this chicken until after the eggs and... oh... shi... I think I just got it.

Still. Increasing audience engagement. Do want. Need to move beyond the "give your audience what they want," though. Need to be more journalistic. How do we make the significant interesting and relevant? How do we get people who show up for the free cookies to try the sushi?

That make sense?

DannyBrown 2711 pts moderator

Brian Driggs Hey there mate,

Wow, awesome comment (as usual), and yes, makes perfect sense. For someone like you, with a very active forum, blog comments could be seen as the "optional dessert".

Are the forums private? Or are they indexed by Google? Can you entice SEO-friendly blogs and comments to increase exposure (even though it's already a large forum), perhaps even individual exposure that the forum can't offer?

Will have to put thinking cap on for this. :)

My latest conversation: What the Hell?

Brian Driggs 196 pts

Thanks for the input, Danny. Really appreciate it. The problem isn't that we have an active forum which isn't participating on the blog, rather, our target audience is predominately forum-based, but isn't making the connection to blog posts.

This conversation has me thinking about list-building; about offering subscribers and inside track into our weekly operations (stuff we aren't publishing), drawing out the most qualified readers, giving them something more, and using that to drive engagement through a vested sense of ownership.

Appreciate your putting on your thinking cap and considering some strategic/tactical feedback here in the future. This situation just boggles the mind sometimes. :P

DannyBrown 2711 pts moderator

Brian Driggs Ah, gotcha - bit different, then! :)

Yeah, list-building is a great option, when done right. It may be that educational courses exclusive to the forum members that become active participants on the blog are on option too (perhaps behind a password-protected area of the blog)?

Hmm, lots to ponder. ;-)

Oh yeah, DannyBrown, that's definitely a waypoint on the journey - and we'll be going even further with it. Big plans. Just gotta get people participating first.

Ironic how much activity there is surrounding the political windbags who do nothing but posture and sellout the people, yet when small groups of people show up genuinely willing to serve the people, affect change, and directly benefit them, it's crickets.

Human nature is a fickle, strange beast. Ah well. We're not out to help everyone. Like I've always said, when there's 7Bn people on the planet, I'm happy to serve those one-in-a-million-types. :)

Hey Danny!

I'm back from the field (I know, you know!) and ready to keep rockin! I need help, I know that. Finding the right help is my biggest scare.

My blogging goals? They have changed some since my beginning in January of 2011. (Oh! Hey, Danny, I have written over 100 posts!!) At first, the goal and reason was to let people know we even exist! Then of course, the second part was to allow more people looking for the type of Adventures we offer, find us.

Now, it is so much more. There is so much here, where we live, to offer people. I want to share the glory and the inspiration of the great wilderness with the world. I want to spread the word to people, individual and families, how much coming together and actually DOING can do, not for just me or just my guest or client, but the people they take the feeling back home with them to others, even strangers. That feeling of accomplishment and strength, the renewal that comes to each individual that witnesses the great gifts of this land. I want to help and make a difference, Danny.

I want to learn more about EVERYTHING!! Really, I need to know more about how to find the audience I am looking for.

Separate posts work the best for me, as sometimes I seem to miss even the blogs I follow carefully to learn from.

My biggest stumbling blocks blogging would be #1 ~How to share more of us, without being a sales pitch. I like writing my memories (stories), but I also like including my own pictures... which means that even with 78,000 pictures of my own on my hard drive, there are so many more stories to tell... but before digital pictures!! LOL #2 ~Improving the blog grade. Seriously. It must effect my SEO, right? That means I need to figure out what EXACTLY it is I am doing wrong! #3 ~Fresh ideas, so my posts don't get too far away from my goal, but still share inspiration and direction for people reading them!

Yeah! A video on HOW TO MAKE YOUR FIRST VIDEO!! (snort snicker!) Maybe a list of really interesting good questions I can play with along with my little flip cam!

Danny, I know I am so out of my element with you brainiacs..but I do try not to sound too silly! I want to do good and wonderful things. You guys are. I can too, just different ones! I only need to be taught!

~Thank you

Amber-Lee

girlygrizzly Hey there miss,

Firt, *never* say you're out of your element - we're all continuously learning, and what we might be able to teach you about some things, you can probably teach us just as much about others. :)

Reading your comment has given me some great ideas for future posts, and I'll be sure to cover your points in depth (and you might also be interested in an upcoming course we'll be launching soon!).

Great suggestions, miss - stay tuned! :)

What are your blogging goals?

I want to use my blog as a platform to grow my copywriting business. But I also want to use my blog to sell services and product to other freelance writers. And I want to find organic ways to integrate the two.

What do you want to learn more about?

Monetizing, networking, optimizing my use of social media, best practices. Definitely blogging best practices.

Do you prefer a series of posts on the same topic, or separate?

Separate. I'm so busy, it's hard to keep track of 'instalment' type posts.

What are your three biggest stumbling blocks when it comes to blogging?

My limited knowledge of technology and how to use Wordpress (Adrienne Smith does a phenomenal and free video course that was really helpful.)

What how-to videos would be useful for you?

How to use Wordpress features - certain blogging essential plugins; Twitter/Facebook/LinkedIn tools;how to use video for your blog - that would be great!

Hope that helps!

i would appreciate if you can make a list of the websites/ services that a new blogger should sign up with. that would work as a great checklist

DannyBrown 2711 pts moderator

bloggersethics When you say sites to sign up with, are you more on about communities to help promote your blog, or affiliates to help monetize with?

i mean the communities. The affiliate networks comes at later stage. I am talking about FB, Twitter and any important networks that a new blogger need to know

One thing I think that would benefit the majority of bloggers is design. I see blogs that may have great content but the low end design is keeping people from experiencing it. As for me, I could use some help on how to blog in a way that encourages people to comment and become engaged. Perhaps it's partly finding a new voice and being more personable as opposed to being professional all of the time.

DannyBrown 2711 pts moderator

salvatier Hi Dennis,

Good suggestions - I know bobwp has some design posts coming up, and we'll definitely be focusing on commenting in a near-future post (especially when livefyre switches over to a guest commenting option).

Danny, I just want to further learn how to broaden my reach. Triberr has been incredible but that boost has sort of peaked. Now with manual approval, less posts are getting out though I still FULLY VALUE it and love it. SEO is also something that continues to confound me!

DannyBrown 2711 pts moderator

BruceSallan Yep. I'd heard grumblings about the Triberr settings mate - and I think your suggestion of reach ties in nicely with bloggersethics and webites/services to check out, so will add that to the list of upcoming topics.

Speaking of SEO, looking to feature some SEO developers as guests in the next few weeks, so watch this space. In the meantime, this might help:

Danny,

My biggest problem is coming up topic ideas and how to draw more people to my blog. Personally I do not like to watch videos and when I see them posted on a site I pass them up. That being said, I would like to learn how to do video and podcasts. I would like helpful resources that are free or low cost and how to articles on how to use the resources presented in a way that doesn't overwhelm me. As a solo-preneur I have to do it all myself and I do not want the information to make my head hurt. I want to feel that when I am finish reading it is something that I feel I can do on my own without screwing up to badly.

Thank you for asking,

Jenn

Wordzopolis Hi Jennifer,

Well, luckily, we can help right away with the blog topics ideas: :)

http://bestbloggingtipsonline.com/category/blog-topics/

We'll be revamping that and posting again very soon, so hopefully that will continue to help.

We definitely have some video resources coming up, and a look at some of the best options for podcasting (from beginning and up). Thanks for the suggestions. :)

Wordzopolis I had to answer to this one. I was the same for a long time. I just had no patience to watch a video. But boy, was I wrong. There is so much stuff people put in videos that you should definitely see.

I picked some of the people's Youtube channels to subscribe to and I make sure not to miss anything since they put the best stuff in videos.

Then, I also always look for video tutorials lately, when I want something done, unlike before, where I wanted to have a long detailed blog post to walk me through it.
