How to Make Money from Your Old Blog Content?

make more money bloggingEvery time I think we covered all the money making topics here, I think of some other way to help you make money from your site. Yes, more ideas coming right up…

This one is for those who are not complete beginners because we are going to -monetize your old content!

There will be a point in your blogging career when you will get tired of writing more and more and when you will start thinking how to get more money out of what you already created.

And you can do this very easily.

E-book

I did this. I turned my blog into an e-book and I am selling it for $9.99 on my blog. It is about 400 pages of content which is still freely available on the blog.

However, some people like the convenience of having all of the info in one file and the book sells. I also plan to update it when I have about the same amount of content added to the blog and send the previous costumers the updated version and raise the price of the book, of course.

You can either get a VA to do it for you, or copy and paste all the posts yourself. Or use a plugin like Anthologize to help you. Here is how I converted it.

You don’t even have to turn your whole blog into a book, actually it would maybe be even better to create multiple books with different topics. Group 10-20 posts on one topic into a book and you have a product made out of your old content. Don’t forget that people love convenience!

Webinar

See what are your top 5 posts and create a webinar on the topic. You don’t have to sell anything in it, just get people on the list by offering a free report that goes with those posts and answers a common problem.

  • Pick a topic from top posts.
  • Organize a webinar on the topic.
  • Answer some frequently asked questions in the webinar.
  • Offer a free report that solves a problem that is common but not talked about to death.
  • Point people to the page where they can sign up to get it.

This is an indirect way to make money with old content, since it will build a list (and we all know money is in the list). But  you won’t really have to create anything new to get it to work!

Charge for content

Micro payments

You may have run into some of these micro-payment options on sites you visit. You start reading the post and after 30 seconds, for example, a pop up shows up asking you to pay some money to read the rest of the post. Most often it is $.99 but it can be anything.

There are various services that will let you set this up. Some niches will work great with this and don’t think you will turn away all your visitors. Depending on what your blog is about, people may actually expect to pay for good solution to a problem, so this is definitely worth trying out.

Membership

You can take your best content off your blog and put it on a membership site. If your blog has a common topic this can be like a course.

If you had a blog about Pinterest, as an example, you can put all your advanced tips into a course “Pinterest beyond recipes – How to grow your business”.

Conclusion

All these are do-able with your existing content. All it takes is a bit of repacking and putting some make up on what you already have! The perfect time to do this is when you are a bit burned out from writing and need some time to refresh. I did it like that and loving the results all the way :)

Do you have some content you can repack and sell?

Love your ideas Brankica, I’m working on an eBook but it will take some time with everything else I have to do. I had not heard of those membership sites you refer to, would love to know more on them. Thanks for sharing these.

Thanks for the comment Lisa, I hope you finish your book soon, I know how long it can take especially if you don’t have a dead line :)

Membership sites are those that you have to pay for access to certain information.

    Hi Bran

“All it takes is a bit of repacking and putting some make up on what you already have!”
    Sounds good to me.
With Christmas coming up I need to look at my Christmas and New Year specific posts.
BTW – when are Livefyre comments coming back?

    • http://onlineincomestar.com/ Brankica | Online Income

I bet you can pull off a quick product out of that but don’t wait, people are already spending piles of money on those holidays, you don’t want to lose a minute.

Danny will answer the comment system one :)

I think it’s better to modify some old content to make money
from those old contents. When you visit your old post, if you think for 2
minute you can have some more things about that particular post, just write
those points and add it in blog post. You also can add some relevant videos and
or graphics to your old blog post to make money from. It will rejuvenate your
    blog post.

The webinar and ebook seem doable. Actually, I’m doing a Google Hangout thing next week, and I was wondering about content to share. Ha! Goldmine!

come back to tell us how it worked…also – record the hangout if it is something good you can sell it individually or as a part of some video training

The Hangout went great. The only thing was I wanted to be a little more structured, so there was a problem with lack of communication between me and the other presenter. Thanks for the tip. If it was structured, I would have definitely downloaded it to give away. I have been using the concept of repurposing content all over the place though. Some days I just feel really lazy and pull up notes from my hard drive to make a blog article:)

Hi – great ideas! I have to ask, though, what’s a Google Hangout. That’s a new one for me!

Hi Brankica – Thanks for sharing this plug-in. It sounds like something that could be really useful. I guess there needs to be an element of ensuring that people effectively edit e-books and don’t just add a price to something that is half-baked. But definitely something I will look to use in the future.

    Thanks for sharing,

    Beth :)
