It’s The End Of The World As We Know It And I Blog Fine

Doomsday

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but we were wrong about the end of the world.

I know we all know that this year, on December 21, the world as we know it will cease to exist.

Nostradamus predicted it and he has never been wrong, as indicated by the recent increase in bomb shelter purchases and the lack of people signing up for long-term loans (or increase in people scamming long-term financing offers, whatever).

But Nostradamus had his calculations off and the end of the world is actually much sooner than anyone expected. I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the world will actually end next Monday.

I know you weren’t prepared for this and there’s a lot of things you need to do before that time comes, but the first thing we need to take care of is to write your best blog posts and have them ready for your readers.

You want to go out on a high note, right? It’s time to get your priorities straight.

Stop Idea Hoarding

Sure, when the end of the world comes you want to have stocked up on milk, bottled water and video games (the essentials), but it seems like most people tend to stock up and hoard their best blog post ideas for some undisclosed date or time in the future.

Well, the end of the world is nigh and there’s no use hoarding those great blog post ideas anymore because after next Monday, no one will be around to read them.

So sit down right now and write the best blog post you’ve ever written. Write that blog post from the idea that still gives you shivers thinking about how good it is that you just haven’t written yet because “the timing wasn’t right” or you were simply scared.

You want to remembered, right?

Unlock that locked drawer to your office and smooth out the napkin that the golden idea is written on and craft that post that will make us all say “Godin who?” We want to read it and remember you for your brilliance, not just the mediocre stuff you put out to “stay on schedule.”

The Next End of the World

And if by some miracle the world doesn’t end next monday at exactly 1:32 PM, then Nostradamus must have miscalculated (it’s easy to do) and the world will DEFINITELY end the following Monday, so sit down and write your next greatest idea to follow up the first one and post that.

You have to keep up that string because the world is definitely going to end that next Monday, so you better go out with a bang.

The end of the world is a hard thing to calculate, so always make sure that the post you’re writing is the best post you can write, because you just never know when the world is going to end, except for this time, because it will end next Monday as we’ve already discussed.

You may not like me telling you to get rid of all your best post ideas and you can be as mad at me as you’d like, I don’t care. The world is ending next Monday, after all.

Utter serendipity (or providence?) that I found your post. I am helping my son start a blog before he leaves for Zambia for 9 weeks, and googled articles about “best blog platform”. Yours seemed the best, so I had him read it, and he’s off and running with Blogger. Thanks!

But then I saw the title of this post in your right-hand gutter, clicked on it, and I am inspired. It’s been almost a year since I have blogged (painful to admit that) and I have had some pretty good ideas percolating… but that old tyrant Urgent had me wrapped in the grim chains of duty. You have inspired me to throw off those chains and write something worth reading!

    Huge thanks to you,
    – Nic

Nic, your comment made me so happy. I’m thrilled that you and your son got to share that learning experience and that this post had any sort of hand in you getting excited about blogging again.

You just made my day. : )

    Hahaha! Wait, you’re serious.

Okay, I’m going for my fifteen minutes of fame! And if we get another Monday by some stroke of luck, I’ll go for another fifteen, and another, and another …

That’s what I like to hear!

Ah, oops. It is not a Nostradamus prediction but the the end of the world calculated on the Mayan/mesoamerican calendar. Of course Mayan civilization has already disappeared a number of centuries ago. There seems to be lots of other folks piling on the date too.

    Good evening, Joey.
Only yesterday I was bemoaning the fact that I can’t seem to focus at the moment and have several perfectly good part-finished posts stacked up. So perhaps this is what I need to get me going again. And you’re quite right – there’s no point in wasting them.
But I understand that it’s quite commonplace for fairly new bloggers to run out of steam – it has been suggested this happens around the 90 day mark. In which case, I won’t beat myself up too much – it’s taken me a year to get to here!

    Kind regards,
    L

Love this! Thing is…don’t you think it might be hard to post a blog post from a bomb shelter? I wonder if anyone thought ahead that much.

    • http://www.joeystrawn.com Joey Strawn

Ah, that’s a very good point Wendy, but anyone smart would have previously wired their bomb shelters with ethernet and a very strong router. Gotta have priorities. : )

Reading this made me laugh and really want to write something that wasn’t a movie review of yet another movie i watched. Great article.
